Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join the Orthopedic Surgery team as an inpatient provider. The role involves managing acute orthopedic surgical patients, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and performing procedures related to post-operative care. The position offers a full-time schedule with four 10-hour shifts per week, primarily Monday through Saturday, and provides comprehensive benefits and support for relocation and loan repayment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assessments of orthopedic patients as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Create and execute daily treatment plans for medical-surgical, telemetry, step-down, and ICU patients.
  • Coordinate consultations with multiple specialty teams.
  • Assess and stabilize unstable patients on inpatient units, evaluating for alternative levels of care.
  • Manage post-operative issues including DVT, PE, anemia, infection, cardiac and respiratory problems, substance withdrawal, and delirium.
  • Evaluate patient medications, including pain management in the peri-operative period.
  • Collaborate with rehab services to facilitate recovery and rehabilitation post-injury or surgery.
  • Perform procedures such as wound care, drain removal, sutures, injections, reductions, splinting, and casting (if credentialed).

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited PA or APRN academic program.
  • Current or eligible certification to practice as a PA in New Hampshire.
  • BLS certification.
  • Experience or interest in inpatient orthopedic surgical care, critical care, or trauma.
  • Familiarity with radiological and laboratory studies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team of APPs, residents, and physicians.
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills and ability to evaluate unstable patients.
  • Eligible for RN licensure (APRN) and APRN or PA licensure in New Hampshire.
  • Eligible for Federal DEA registration.
  • Successful completion of an approved PA program.
