We are seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join a cardiothoracic surgery team. The provider will perform pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative patient evaluations, assist in the operating room, and manage outpatient clinic responsibilities. The role involves collaboration with surgeons and healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care across all patient care phases.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, treat, and document cardiothoracic surgery patients throughout pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative periods, including follow-up after discharge.
• Conduct rounding in the ICU and hospital floors, managing a patient load of 2-3 patients, with documentation of progress notes, consults, discharge summaries, and patient education.
• Assist in the operating room with conduit harvesting for CABG, first assisting during cardiac and thoracic surgeries, including cases such as valve repairs, aneurysm repairs, and lung resections.
• Perform office visits, small procedures, and patient education, providing clear communication to patients and families.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement treatment plans, order and follow up on diagnostic tests, and ensure quality patient care.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, referrals, discharge planning, and quality monitoring activities.
• Maintain professional development through certification updates and skill enhancement.
• Support research activities and serve as a clinical preceptor or onboarding resource for new staff as needed.

Compensation

• Salary-based compensation (W-2 tax status).

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour shifts scheduled on a variable basis, typically from 7am to 7pm.
• Schedule includes on-call duties with an expected call ratio of approximately 1:3, distributed evenly among team members.
• Work hours and days vary based on operational needs.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with NCCPA certification and licensure, or an MSN or higher degree in nursing with APRN licensure and national certification.
• Current licensure and certification to practice in the applicable state, including BLS and ACLS or PALS as required.
• Experience or clinical rotations in cardiothoracic surgery preferred; newly licensed providers with relevant rotations will be considered.
• Ability to perform advanced assessments, diagnostic procedures, and interpret results.
• Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated professionalism, ethical behavior, and ability to work effectively in high-stress environments.
• Competency in electronic medical record systems and clinical documentation.
• Critical thinking, decision-making skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform physical examinations.
• Willingness to work 12-hour shifts on a variable schedule with call responsibilities distributed evenly among the team.
