The Nurse Practitioner provides primary medical and preventive care to patients with acute and chronic illnesses at a community health center. Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the role involves diagnosing, treating, and managing patient care, including performing procedures, ordering tests, and patient education, within the scope of family medicine and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and chronic illnesses, including performing physical exams, specialized procedures, and prescribing medications.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, communicate results to patients, and refer patients to specialists as needed.
  • Provide patient education on health promotion, disease prevention, family planning, and prenatal care.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately in the electronic medical record and ensure compliance with documentation standards.
  • Participate in immunization clinics, health screenings, and health promotion activities.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care and improve clinical practices.
  • Maintain compliance with licensure, certification, and quality assurance protocols, including continuing education requirements.
  • Engage with community organizations, public agencies, and healthcare partners to promote health initiatives and foster positive relationships.

Compensation

  • Salary paid via W-2 tax model.

Benefits

  • Four (4) weeks of annual leave.
  • Up to two (2) weeks of sick leave.
  • Up to one (1) week of continuing education leave.
  • Paid holidays: eight (8) days and four (4) days of personal leave.
  • Health insurance coverage is not provided.
  • No employer retirement contribution.
  • Additional benefits include paid life insurance, short-term disability, medical and dependent care accounts, health savings account, and eligibility for a 403(b) retirement plan after 12 months.

Shift & Schedule

  • Full-time employment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program.
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in New Mexico.
  • Certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or the American Nurses Credentialing Center in a specified area of practice.
  • Federal DEA certification and NM State pharmacy license.
  • ACLS or CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience in a community health setting and managed care environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of family medicine principles, health promotion, and relevant state healthcare regulations.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with diverse patient populations and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to interpret clinical documents, write reports, and resolve patient conflicts.
  • Documentation of education, experience, and licensure must be maintained and credentialing completed per organizational policies.
