Hackensack University Medical Center is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant to join the transplant surgery team for night shifts. The role involves inpatient care for transplant patients, primarily kidney and pancreas transplants, with some outpatient responsibilities. The PA will assist with pre- and post-surgical management, collaborate with nephrologists, and provide patient education under physician supervision.

Responsibilities

• Conduct histories and physical examinations on transplant candidates.
• Provide pre- and post-surgical inpatient care for transplant patients.
• Monitor and manage inpatient transplant patients during night shifts and weekends.
• Collaborate with nephrologists on dialysis planning and patient management.
• Order laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures in accordance with standards.
• Assist in the surgical and medical management of kidney and pancreas transplant patients.
• Provide education and support to patients and their families.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including surgeons and physician assistants.

Compensation

• Annual salary of $123,260.80 (W-2).
• Compensation is benchmarked against market data and may include performance incentives or shift differentials.
• Pay transparency is maintained in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act.

Shift & Schedule

• Variable schedule with approximately three 13.5-hour shifts per week.
• Work primarily during night shifts, evenings, and weekends.
• Schedule is flexible but primarily inpatient care with some outpatient coverage.
• Orientation period of 3-6 months.

Requirements

• New Jersey Physician Assistant license.
• Successful completion of an accredited PA program recognized by the AMA Council on Medical Education.
• Effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Prior inpatient surgical or nephrology experience preferred.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and variable shifts.
• New graduates are welcome to apply.
• Experience in transplant or nephrology is desirable but not mandatory.
