The Physician Assistant (PA) will join a multidisciplinary vascular and thoracic surgery team at Capital Region Medical Center. The role involves providing diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive care to critically ill patients, performing procedures, and collaborating with physicians and staff to ensure high-quality patient outcomes. The PA may also cross-cover other service lines as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services to critically ill patients in vascular and thoracic care.
  • Obtain medical histories, examine patients, and conduct daily rounds.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, make initial diagnoses, and initiate treatments.
  • Administer procedures such as intracranial monitoring, ventricular drains, VP shunt taps, suturing, and wound care.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, medical teams, patients, and families.
  • Assist in the operating room when necessary.
  • Participate in quality assurance, safety initiatives, and departmental meetings.
  • Maintain procedural competence and adhere to Maryland Board standards and protocols.

Compensation

  • $61.63 - $81.35 per hour, commensurate with experience
  • Hourly compensation model with W-2 tax status
  • Includes CME allowance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Active Maryland Physician Assistant license.
  • BLS certification; ACLS certification required; ATLS preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of vascular or thoracic surgical experience (preferred).
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities independently and demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety principles.
  • Participation in continuing medical education (minimum 50 hours of Category I CME every two years).
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and follow organizational protocols.
  • Demonstrated competence in required procedures and clinical decision-making.
