Join the Emergency General Surgery team at OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center, the region's only Level 1 Trauma Center. This full-time Physician Assistant position involves providing comprehensive surgical care in a fast-paced, educational environment, with opportunities for training, certification, and professional development. The role emphasizes collaboration with surgeons and residents, participation in patient management from emergency care through outpatient follow-up, and involvement in quality improvement and research initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in surgical procedures and bedside interventions as part of the emergency general surgery team.
  • Participate in daily rounds with attending surgeons and residents to manage acutely ill patients.
  • Provide patient care from initial consultation in the emergency room through inpatient management, discharge planning, and outpatient follow-up.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Complete required First Assist training and certification, with institutional reimbursement.
  • Contribute to quality improvement and research initiatives related to surgical care.
  • Assist with bedside procedures and contribute to surgical decision-making.
  • Work rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation

  • Hourly rate ranging from $60.39 to $73.68.
  • Sign-on bonus of $10,000.

Shift & Schedule

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate program.
  • Board Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C).
  • Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in Illinois.
  • Authorized to prescribe narcotics under DEA and Illinois state regulations.
  • Experience in a surgical setting is preferred.
  • First Assist certification and experience are preferred; training and certification can be provided and reimbursed.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and quality improvement.
  • Must meet all state and federal licensing and certification requirements.
