The Nurse Practitioner in Health Services at Roger Williams University provides comprehensive clinical care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for adult and adolescent patients. The role involves direct patient care, collaboration with physicians, supervision of clinical support staff, and participation in campus health initiatives. This is a full-time, 10-month position based in Bristol, RI.

Responsibilities

• Perform physical assessments, diagnose, treat, and refer patients as needed, including adult and adolescent medicine and gynecology.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays; perform phlebotomy and other specimen collections.
• Independently prescribe medications and therapeutics, utilizing consultations and coordinating care with outside providers.
• Manage emergency medical situations and provide patient education for recovery and prevention.
• Maintain complete and timely clinical documentation, ensuring patient confidentiality.
• Support administrative functions of the Health Service office, including patient flow and communication.
• Supervise and provide guidance to clinical support staff, including Medical Assistants and Registered Nurses.
• Participate in campus health initiatives, committees, and provide educational lectures as needed.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse with a Master's Degree in Nursing.
• Minimum of two years of nursing experience.
• Certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges.
• State licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges.
• CPR certification.
• Ability to provide after-hours patient follow-up on an as-needed basis.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records systems.
• Experience in college health or related clinical areas such as internal medicine, gynecology, mental health, orthopedics, or urgent care is preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment, technical skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
