The Physician Assistant in Interventional Radiology is responsible for performing diagnostic and minimally invasive vascular and nonvascular procedures, assisting with patient management, and supporting interventional radiologists. The role involves pre- and post-procedure patient care, documentation, and coordination of imaging and laboratory tests, with opportunities for on-call coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and assist with minimally invasive vascular and nonvascular procedures, including port placements, biopsies, catheter insertions, and drainages, under supervision or independently as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement patient care plans, including pre- and post-procedure assessments, education, and counseling.
  • Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests and imaging results; monitor and report significant changes in patient conditions.
  • Assist in patient preparation, including physical exams, medical history intake, and screening for contraindications related to contrast media and other procedures.
  • Coordinate scheduling of interventional procedures, imaging studies, and laboratory tests with referring physicians and patients.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding procedures, preparation, and post-procedure care.
  • Document all clinical activities, procedures, and patient interactions accurately in medical records; dictate procedures for final approval.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary communication, problem-solving, research activities, and patient care conferences, including tumor boards.

Compensation

  • Salary-based compensation (W-2 tax status).

Requirements

  • Supervising physician with core privileges in Interventional Radiology.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Demonstrated competence with at least 50 fluoroscopy procedures in the past 24 months.
  • Ability to perform or assist with fluoroscopy-guided procedures, including port placements, biopsies, and catheter insertions.
  • Skill in patient assessment, physical examination, and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with flexibility to work evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety regulations and contrast media management.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Discretion in handling confidential patient information.
