The Advanced Practice Provider (ACNP/PA) in Neurosurgery at the Clinical Neuroscience Institute provides advanced, evidence-based care for critically ill neurological patients. Collaborating with physicians and the care team, the APP manages patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing critical care in a hospital setting, supporting stabilization and high-acuity decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams on critically ill patients.
• Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic tests including imaging and laboratory studies.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
• Manage and interpret intracranial pressure devices.
• Prescribe medications, therapies, and interventions within licensure and collaborative agreements.
• Respond to neurological emergencies and acute deteriorations.
• Provide education and communication support to patients, families, and healthcare staff.
• Document all patient care in the electronic medical record and uphold HIPAA standards.

Requirements

• Completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Current licensure as an ACNP or PA in Ohio, and as a Physician.
• Valid license to practice as an ACNP in Ohio.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• National certification as an ACNP (ANCC or equivalent) or PA (NCCPA).
• Current and maintained Certificate to Prescribe.
• Experience in acute or critical care, neurocritical care, or neurosurgical ICU preferred (2-3 years).
• Advanced knowledge of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and critical care management.
• Proficiency in diagnostic interpretation and invasive monitoring.
• Strong clinical judgment, organizational, multitasking, and communication skills.
