This full-time position involves providing primary care as a dual-role Hospitalist and Emergency Department provider at a critical access hospital in a rural setting. The role includes inpatient management, emergency care, and procedures, with a focus on delivering high-quality, multidisciplinary care during night shifts (7pm-7am). The provider must have hospital privileges and be able to work independently within established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manage inpatient admissions, conduct daily rounds, and coordinate discharge planning.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop treatment plans.
• Provide emergency care for patients with acute medical, surgical, and trauma conditions, including procedures such as suturing, splinting, abscess drainage, and intubation (credentialing permitting).
• Stabilize critically ill or injured patients and arrange transfers to higher-level care when necessary.
• Respond to hospital-wide emergencies, including codes and rapid response situations.
• Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record system.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Educate patients and families regarding conditions, treatments, and discharge instructions.

Compensation

• Hourly rate between USD 60.41 and USD 83.83, paid via W-2.
• Compensation is based on a full-time schedule with variable days and 12-hour night shifts.

Shift & Schedule

• Night shifts from 7pm to 7am.

• Schedule is variable and may include rotating shifts.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a formal primary health care or clinical specialty program approved by the South Dakota Board of Medical & Osteopathic Examiners.
• Current certification as an NP (AANP/ANCC) or PA-C (NCCPA).
• Must have passed the NCCPA certification exam or be grandfathered by the South Dakota Board of Medical & Osteopathic Examiners.
• Possession of a valid Physician Assistant's license in South Dakota.
• Experience in inpatient and/or emergency medicine preferred.
• Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, PALS, and ATLS are preferred.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a rural hospital setting.
• Must be able to perform procedures within scope of practice and follow hospital policies.
• Willingness to work variable hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
