The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide clinical support in both surgical and outpatient settings, assisting with patient management throughout all phases of the surgical process and delivering outpatient care. The role involves collaboration with the surgical team, performing surgical tasks under supervision, conducting physical exams, diagnosing, treating, and managing patient care plans, and ensuring compliance with hospital policies and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist in all phases of surgical procedures, including pre-operative preparation, intraoperative tasks, and post-operative care, under surgeon supervision.
• Perform surgical tasks such as tissue dissection, wound closure, hemostasis, and drainage device insertion while maintaining sterile technique.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient surgical environment.
• Document all patient care activities accurately in the electronic medical record, including operative and progress notes.
• Conduct physical examinations, record patient histories, and develop treatment plans in outpatient clinic settings.
• Diagnose and treat patient problems, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and provide patient education.
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Program.
• Current California Physician Assistant License.
• National certification from the NCCPA (PANCE) and maintenance of certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of medical/surgical training or experience.
• Ability to perform physical assessments, interpret diagnostic studies, and formulate differential diagnoses.
• Knowledge of surgical principles and management of medical and surgical conditions.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Current BLS certification, LA County Fire Card, and ARC certification within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
