The Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Joseph's Hospital is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Professional (NP or PA) to provide comprehensive emergency care, coordinate patient management, perform diagnostic procedures, and participate in education and quality improvement initiatives. The role involves managing acute care patients, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring effective discharge planning within an academic medical setting.

Responsibilities

• Manage comprehensive and individualized care for emergency medicine patients and their families, including post-discharge follow-up and coordination of hospitalization if necessary.
• Perform pre-procedure evaluations, integrated assessments, and diagnostic tests following clinical guidelines.
• Collaborate with emergency medicine faculty and other healthcare providers to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Coordinate discharge planning by arranging necessary services and tests for outpatient follow-up.
• Evaluate emergency patients, recognize urgent situations, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions.
• Document clinical findings, interventions, and care plans accurately in the medical record.
• Participate in education of staff, students, and patients, promoting a learning environment.
• Contribute to quality improvement efforts by reviewing clinical data and participating in research activities.

Compensation

• Salary compensation model with W-2 tax status.

Shift & Schedule

• Full-time position with scheduled weekly hours of 36.
• Work hours may include protracted or irregular hours, including potential night shifts.

Requirements

• Graduate of a CCNE-accredited nursing program with a Master's Degree in Nursing.
• Current national certification by a recognized APRN certification center.
• Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
• American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certifications required.
• Experience in acute care or emergency medicine preferred; new graduates considered.
• For Physician Assistant candidates: Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an ARC-PA approved program, and certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
• Strong communication skills and proficiency with computers.
• Ability to perform clinical procedures safely and effectively.
• Demonstrated critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills.
