Surgical Physician Assistant

Marshfield Clinic Health System is seeking Physician Assistants to join various specialty programs, including Thoracic Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, and Occupational Medicine. The roles involve clinical patient care, surgical assistance, inpatient and outpatient duties, and collaborative team-based practice within a non-profit healthcare setting serving Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings, including clinic visits, hospital rounds, and surgical assistance.
• Assist in surgical procedures across specialties such as urology, orthopedics, and thoracic surgery.
• Participate in call rotations, which vary by location and specialty, including nights and weekends.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Manage acute injuries, perform patient education, and facilitate discharge planning.
• Support outreach efforts and contribute to program development, particularly in new initiatives like thoracic surgery.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based practices and adhere to clinical protocols.
• Perform administrative duties related to patient documentation and compliance.

Shift & Schedule

• Variable schedule depending on the specialty and location.
• Call rotations vary by site: 1:7, 1:5, or 1:9.
• Typical clinic hours are Monday through Friday, with some roles including weekend or evening hours.
• In Weston, Wisconsin, a schedule of Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm, with Saturday work (4 hours) is available.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years of hospital-based clinical experience preferred.
• Current Physician Assistant licensure in Wisconsin.
• Active DEA license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within three months of hire.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and patient management skills.
• Flexibility to participate in variable schedules and call rotations.
• Experience in surgical assistance or specialty care is desirable.
• Commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
