The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide primary medical care to patients within a multidisciplinary health center, working under the supervision of a physician. The role involves direct patient care, clinical oversight, and participation in quality improvement activities, with a focus on delivering age-appropriate pediatric and general medical services.

Responsibilities

  • Provides medical services delegated by a supervising physician, including examinations, diagnoses, treatments, and prescriptions.
  • Maintains clinical competency, including age-specific pediatric care, and reviews lab and x-ray reports for patient management.
  • Provides scheduled outpatient visits, including extended hours clinics, with a minimum of 3,200 encounters annually and at least 40 hours per week in the clinic.
  • Refers patients to specialty care, labs, and ancillary services, ensuring timely review of reports and appropriate medical management.
  • Documents patient encounters accurately and in a timely manner, maintaining comprehensive health records.
  • Participates in health promotion, education, and prevention programs, and educates patients and caregivers on care plans.
  • Provides basic life support in emergency situations and participates in clinic and departmental meetings.
  • Provides clinical oversight, supervises support staff and students, and contributes to quality improvement and policy development.

Requirements

  • Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Current unrestricted license from the Texas Physician Assistant Board.

  • Minimum of one year of direct patient care experience.
  • Annual continuing medical education as required by the Texas Physician Assistant Board.
  • Current CPR for Healthcare Professionals certification.
  • Knowledge of health promotion, prevention principles, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to document clinical information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work with office equipment and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • Physical ability to lift over 50 pounds, handle extensive standing and walking, and work under stressful conditions.
