Summit Federal Services/Merito Group is seeking Physician Assistant applicants for temporary positions with the Maryland State Police across various locations. The role involves providing urgent care, physicals, and medical support during critical incidents and operational activities, under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Responsibilities

• Provide urgent care, sick call, and physical examinations for civilian, sworn, applicant, and allied personnel.
• Support and oversee medical activities during critical incidents, homeland security operations, and activities with increased injury risk.
• Facilitate the safe and effective return to duty of sick or injured personnel following policy and Medical Director guidance.
• Utilize medical equipment such as autoclaves, Cepheid testing instruments, cardiac treadmills, electrocardiograms, hearing screening devices, and others as directed.
• Assist the Medical Director with administrative duties when requested.
• Provide instruction and training at various locations as needed.
• Travel to different sites to cover sick calls or training sessions, using civilian state vehicles.
• Perform other duties related to the health and welfare of Maryland State Police members and associated personnel.

Compensation

• Salary-based compensation (W-2 tax status).

• Travel to multiple locations may be required, including training sites and operational areas.

Requirements

• Current certification as a Physician Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Physician Quality Assurance or eligibility for certification.
• At least one year of experience performing Physician Assistant duties.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and bacteriology.
• Skill in taking detailed patient histories and performing physical examinations.
• Ability to interpret patient data and assist in management and treatment decisions under supervision.
• Skill in performing diagnostic procedures as authorized by a supervising physician.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various locations.
• Ability to follow physician instructions accurately and establish rapport with patients and colleagues.
• Preferred: CPR certification, problem-solving skills, and interest in occupational or operational medicine.
• Candidates with military service as a commissioned officer in Physician Assistant roles may substitute experience and education on a year-for-year basis.
