This is a full-time, temporary Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) position at Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital, focusing on managing post-operative care for Internal Medicine patients. The role involves independent and collaborative patient management, including rounding, prescribing treatments, and discharge planning, primarily during daytime hours from October 2025 to February 2026.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, treat, and provide continuous care to hospitalized post-operative patients.
• Conduct pre- and post-op assessments, rounds, and communicate directly with patients and families.
• Collaborate with surgeons on individualized treatment plans.
• Prescribe medications and order/interpret lab tests, imaging, and diagnostics.
• Lead discharge planning and coordinate with primary care and other services.
• Document clinical care thoroughly and accurately in electronic medical records (EMR).
• Support nursing staff and other healthcare team members as needed.
• Maintain active continuing education and participate in team meetings.

Compensation

• Salary model with W-2 tax status.
• Compensation is not partner-eligible.

Shift & Schedule

• Monday through Friday, dayshift hours from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
• No on-call responsibilities.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Licensed (or eligible for licensure) in South Dakota.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications preferred (can be obtained upon hire).
• 2+ years of experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or family practice strongly preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients and situations.
• Proficiency with EMR systems and standard medical software.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Familiarity with infection control procedures and emergency response.
