The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide critical care services within the ICU at Evanston Hospital, working alongside intensivists and multidisciplinary teams. The role involves autonomous patient management, including exams, differential diagnosis, and treatment of critically ill medical and surgical patients. The position requires flexibility in scheduling and rotation across multiple sites, with a focus on delivering high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive exams and develop differential diagnoses for critically ill patients in the ICU.
  • Prescribe and manage treatments for acute and chronic illnesses in critically ill medical and surgical patients.
  • Collaborate with intensivists and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
  • Work autonomously within interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, safe patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to maintaining safety protocols and best practices in critical care settings.
  • Participate in rotating shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, across multiple sites.
  • Cross-train for all ICU units and rotate between Evanston Hospital and other locations as needed.
  • Maintain current licensure, DEA, and controlled substance licenses, and adhere to institutional policies.

Compensation

  • Hourly pay rate ranges from $61.22 to $85.71, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • W-2 employment status.

Shift & Schedule

  • Variable schedule with shifts between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., including occasional early morning shifts.
  • Rotating weekends and holidays.
  • Coverage includes day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours across multiple sites.

Requirements

  • Current Illinois Physician Assistant license (or pending licensure), with NCCPA certification.
  • BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Experience in critical care patient management is mandatory, or completion of a one-year critical care residency.
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a Master's Degree.
  • Ability to work independently within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Illinois Controlled Substance and DEA licenses required.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills in critical care settings.
  • Flexibility to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Experience with cardiovascular care is a plus.
  • New graduates with relevant training will be considered.
