This Physician Assistant role supports the Emergency Department at Fort Johnson South, LA, providing urgent and emergency medical care to patients, including assessment, stabilization, and treatment of acute conditions. The PA will perform emergency procedures, respond to code blue situations, and document patient care in accordance with hospital protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of emergency medical services, including diagnosis and treatment of urgent and acute diseases and injuries across multiple systems.
  • Provide emergency services and crisis intervention in the absence of a physician, including lifesaving procedures to stabilize patients.
  • Examine and assess emergency medical conditions of healthcare system beneficiaries and take appropriate action.
  • Evaluate and manage emergency patients, seeing an average of at least two patients per hour, and summon specialists as needed.
  • Respond to 'Code Blue' emergencies, providing resuscitation until specialized treatment arrives, and document all actions taken.
  • Provide emergency care to inpatients and outpatients, including in holding areas, and manage non-acute conditions based on triage priorities.
  • Maintain accurate medical records using electronic medical records systems, including documentation of history, physical exams, and diagnoses.
  • Participate in staff meetings, become familiar with hospital formulary, and remain available in the emergency room throughout the shift.

Compensation

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of recent experience practicing emergency medicine as a physician assistant within the last two years.
  • Current, active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States or its territories.
  • Certification from NCCPA, ANCC, or AANP.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from an AHA-approved program.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements.
  • Complete and maintain OSHA training.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work well with diverse staff and patients.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain DEA registration matching state licensure.
  • Preferred: Current privileges at US Military Hospitals (Veterans, Navy, Air Force bases).
