The University of Minnesota Physicians seeks a Physician Assistant to join the Adult Emergency Department at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis. The role involves evaluating and managing emergency patients, performing procedures, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team in a high-volume, academic hospital setting. The PA will work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, providing high-quality emergency care within a comprehensive clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients through history-taking and physical examinations.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as imaging, labs, and electrocardiograms.
• Perform emergency procedures including suturing, splinting, wound care, and nerve blocks.
• Develop and implement patient management plans, document progress, and ensure continuity of care.
• Prescribe medications, including controlled substances, and medical devices.
• Counsel patients and families on treatment plans and medication adherence.
• Coordinate care with consulting services and facilitate referrals.
• Maintain accurate electronic medical records using Epic and adhere to ethical and professional standards.

Compensation

• Annual salary range of $130,002 to $164,797, commensurate with experience.

Shift & Schedule

• Rotating 10-hour shifts, including weekends (1 in 3) and holidays (6 per year).
• Current shifts include 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 12 a.m.
• Schedule is variable and subject to change.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate program.
• Current PA license through the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.
• Active DEA license or ability to obtain one.
• Certification through the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants).
• BLS and ACLS certification; ATLS preferred.
• 2-3 years of emergency medicine experience in a high-volume, tertiary hospital preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple clinical tasks efficiently and effectively.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• New graduates with a strong interest in Emergency Medicine may be considered.
