The Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will practice orthopaedic medicine, providing comprehensive patient care including history taking, physical examinations, diagnostic interpretation, treatment planning, and procedural interventions. The role involves collaboration with physicians, performing minor surgical procedures, assisting in surgeries, and managing inpatient and outpatient cases. Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused history and physical exams.
  • Interpret laboratory and diagnostic procedures to formulate diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Develop and implement treatment strategies within scope of practice.
  • Perform procedures such as joint aspirations, injections, wound management, and minor surgical interventions.
  • Assist in surgical procedures, including first assisting and tissue closures.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies including X-rays, MRI, CT, EMG, and bone scans.
  • Manage inpatient care, including hospital rounds, writing orders, and acting as a call provider.
  • Order, prescribe, and dispense medications and orthopaedic devices, and evaluate patient health maintenance.

Requirements

  • Current Kentucky RN license with prescriptive authority and MSN, or valid Physician Assistant certification with Kentucky license.
  • Successful completion of advanced practitioner training and certification from an approved Nurse Practitioner program, or accredited Physician Assistant program with national certification.
  • Minimum of two years prior orthopaedic experience.
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • Knowledge of healthcare protocols, medical office procedures, and electronic health records.
  • Skill in patient care, communication, and patient education.
  • Ability to learn and retain clinical procedures, demonstrate professionalism, and prioritize tasks.
  • Willingness to travel to satellite locations and hospitals as needed.
  • Ability to stand for 80% of the time, lift up to 50 pounds, and assist with patient transfers.
