The Neonatology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides specialized care for newborns in a Level III NICU setting at Essentia Health's Fargo, ND campus. The role involves independent patient assessment, management, and procedures for infants from 23 weeks gestation, in collaboration with physicians and healthcare team members. Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical care to neonates, including acutely ill and transitional patients, in a Level III NICU setting.
  • Perform procedures such as intubation, chest tube placement, umbilical line placement, PICC line insertion, arterial lines, and lumbar punctures.
  • Input and interpret Vermont Oxford data for quality and research purposes.
  • Work independently with physician on-call support for emergent assessments and questions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Contribute to program development and quality improvement initiatives as the NICU expands.
  • Maintain current licensure, certifications, and credentialing requirements.
  • Participate in shift rotations, including day and night shifts, with flexible scheduling as the team grows.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $125,528.00 to $175,739.20 annually.
  • Compensation includes salary plus incentives, such as productivity and quality bonuses.

Shift & Schedule

  • Full-time position with 12-hour shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., rotating between day and night shifts.

  • Shift hours and rotation schedule may change as the team expands.
  • No call obligations; weekends and holidays off.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing (NP) or Bachelor's/Master's degree in Physician Assistant from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse and Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the appropriate state.
  • Certification in CPR and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
  • Experience or clinical rotation in Neonatology or NICU preferred; new graduates considered with relevant background.
  • Ability to perform advanced neonatal procedures such as intubation and line placements.
  • Strong decision-making, assessment, and clinical skills in neonatal care.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills for family and team interactions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work variable shifts, including day and night rotations.
