The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a Lead Midwife to oversee the Midwifery Service and OB/GYN Advanced Practice Provider team. The role involves clinical practice, team leadership, mentorship, and participation in education, quality improvement, and research initiatives within an academic medical setting. The position offers an opportunity to shape clinical care, education, and policy development in a collaborative environment dedicated to high-quality, patient-centered reproductive health services.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain personal clinical practice while supervising other APP personnel.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and leadership to APP team members.
  • Collaborate with physicians, administrative staff, and site leaders to coordinate clinical activities.
  • Facilitate educational initiatives and contribute to quality improvement and research efforts.
  • Advocate for scope of practice and clinical excellence within the team.
  • Support the development and implementation of educational programs, including a future Midwifery Education Program.
  • Participate in policy development and clinical governance activities.
  • Engage in clinical, educational, and administrative leadership aligned with departmental and institutional goals.

Compensation

  • Hourly compensation model.
  • Range: USD 75.33 to USD 103.26 per hour.
  • Compensation is provided through a W-2 tax status.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing, Midwifery, or Physician Assistant studies.
  • Current Vermont license as a Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Physician Assistant.
  • National certification from an approved certifying body.
  • Current NRP and BLS certifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience.
  • At least 2 years of progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, medical staff bylaws, and credentialing standards.
  • Self-aware, proactive, and capable of working independently.
