The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the School-Based Health Clinic provides primary healthcare services to students at Kankakee Junior High School. The NP conducts physical assessments, diagnoses and treats common illnesses, prescribes medications, and offers health education and preventive care. The role involves collaboration with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive student health management in a school setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic health conditions for students, including performing physical exams and health screenings.
• Diagnose and treat common childhood illnesses, injuries, and conditions such as colds, asthma, allergies, ear infections, and minor injuries.
• Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with state laws and school policies.
• Order and interpret lab tests and diagnostic procedures as needed.
• Deliver health education on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, sexual health, mental health, and substance abuse prevention.
• Conduct preventive health services including immunizations, screenings, and wellness exams.
• Collaborate with school healthcare team, communicate with parents, and coordinate care with external providers when necessary.
• Provide emergency care including first aid, CPR, and life-saving interventions, and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.

Compensation

• Salary commensurate with experience.

Shift & Schedule

• Work days are Monday through Friday.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current, valid Nurse Practitioner license in Illinois.
• Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) preferred.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and ACLS certifications.
• Experience in pediatric or primary care, preferably in a school-based setting.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment skills.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and school staff.
• Knowledge of school health regulations, immunization requirements, and confidentiality laws (HIPAA).
• Ability to work independently and make clinical decisions in a school environment.
• Compassionate, patient-focused approach with problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
