The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of oncology patients as part of an interdisciplinary team at Smilow Cancer Hospital, affiliated with Yale Cancer Center. The role includes collaborating with physicians, managing treatment plans, educating patients and families, and offering psychosocial support. Opportunities may include surgical assistance in the operating room.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, triage, and management of patient and family needs throughout the disease process.
  • Collaborate with supervising physicians in accordance with state law, hospital policies, protocols, and clinical pathways, with potential for autonomous team-based care.
  • Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, review diagnostic and therapeutic tests, and prescribe chemotherapy.
  • Formulate and manage patient treatment plans.
  • Educate patients and families on care, resources, treatment plans, side effects, and discharge instructions.
  • Provide psychosocial support to patients, families, and significant others in a professional manner.
  • Serve in the operating room as a surgical assistant (opportunity).

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • 1-2 years of oncology experience preferred.
  • Active, unrestricted Connecticut medical license or in the process of obtaining it.
  • Certification in ACLS/BLS (as required).
  • DEA license.
  • Experience in Bone Marrow / Stem Cell Transplant highly desirable.
  • Oncology APP experience highly preferred.
