The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Preoperative Clinic provides comprehensive perioperative assessments and management to optimize patient readiness for anesthesia and surgery. The role involves collaboration with surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care, supporting quality improvement and professional development.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive preoperative evaluations, including history, physical exam, and diagnostic test review.
- Identify medical and surgical risk factors, formulate perioperative risk assessments, and develop individualized care plans.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies; prescribe interventions; arrange specialty consultations and referrals as needed.
- Provide patient and family education on perioperative instructions, medication management, and chronic condition optimization.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the interprofessional team to ensure safe surgical care.
- Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, process optimization, and protocol development for the preoperative clinic.
- Contribute to trainee education and departmental teaching efforts.

Requirements
- Master's degree in Nursing (NP), Physician Assistant Studies (PA), or CRNA/AA degree.
- Current licensure and certification as a Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, CRNA, or AA in the state of practice.
- Minimum 1-2 years of clinical experience; perioperative, anesthesia, or critical care experience preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and teamwork skills.
