This locum anesthesiology assistant position near West Raleigh, NC, involves providing anesthesia services in a hospital setting with a focus on pediatric cases, orthopedics, spine, general surgery, and ENT procedures. The role requires supervision of CRNAs, working in an 8-bed ambulatory surgery center with multiple operating and procedure rooms, on a full-time basis with 10-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

• Supervise CRNAs under the direction of an MD, typically at a 5:1 ratio.
• Provide anesthesia coverage for a variety of cases including pediatric ENT, cataracts, orthopedics, GYN, podiatry, spine, and ocular plastics.
• Cover cases in an outpatient surgical setting with up to 8 operating rooms and additional procedure rooms.
• Manage anesthesia for cases in GI and EP labs, excluding cardiac surgeries.
• Work scheduled 10-hour shifts, approximately 40 hours per week, with variable days.
• Ensure compliance with hospital protocols and EMR documentation.
• Maintain high standards of patient safety and anesthesia care.
• Possibly cover additional cases such as GYN, Podiatry, and spine surgeries as needed.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree with valid medical license in North Carolina (preferred).
• Minimum of 3 years of anesthesia experience.
• Comfortable with a wide range of cases, including pediatric and orthopedic procedures.
• Experience supervising CRNAs in a surgical setting.
• Ability to work full-time, 10-hour shifts, with flexibility for variable schedule days.
• Credentialing process estimated at 45-60 days.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Must be comfortable working in a hospital outpatient setting with multiple specialties.
• Possession of or ability to obtain NC medical license.
• Experience with EMR systems.
