The Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA) at UTHealth Houston provides anesthesia services under the supervision of an anesthesiologist in the Texas Medical Center. The role involves administering prescribed anesthesia, conducting pre-anesthetic assessments, monitoring patient vital signs, and assisting in perioperative care, including emergency response and post-operative management.

Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed anesthesia to patients under the supervision of an anesthesiologist to facilitate surgical procedures.
  • Obtain comprehensive pre-anesthetic patient histories and perform physical examinations; order pre-op evaluations and medications as needed.
  • Establish and interpret multi-parameter monitoring, including invasive and non-invasive modalities.
  • Perform initial CPR/ACLS in emergency situations until the supervising anesthesiologist arrives.
  • Utilize advanced treatment modalities such as airway management, vasoactive infusions, blood administration, and other prescribed interventions.
  • Assist in post-operative patient care, including ventilator support and pain management.
  • Engage in teaching and research activities as directed by the supervising anesthesiologist.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Salary-based compensation (W-2 tax status).

Requirements

  • Current NCCAA certification.
  • Bachelor's degree and graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited two-year Anesthesia Assistant program.
  • Proficiency in patient monitoring techniques in anesthesia care.
  • Ability to perform advanced airway interventions and emergency procedures.
  • Physical ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Residency in Texas required.
  • Security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code § 51.215.
  • No prior experience required.
