The Cardiovascular Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) at Genesis HealthCare System assists cardiothoracic surgeons in patient care across operative and peri-operative settings. The role involves conducting assessments, performing diagnostic and minor invasive procedures, assisting in surgeries, managing post-operative care, and coordinating discharge planning, under surgeon supervision. The APP provides comprehensive care, including patient education and case management, to support optimal health outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough medical histories and physical examinations; order and review lab, radiology, and diagnostic tests to evaluate patient health and develop treatment plans.
• Manage patient care in the office setting, including post-operative management and non-complex surgical consultations, as directed by the supervising surgeon.
• Serve as a first assistant during surgery, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are prepared, and perform surgical assist duties.
• Perform in-hospital consultations, facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Perform assigned call duties as required.
• Perform and interpret routine diagnostic procedures such as laboratory tests, radiologic imaging, and cardiologic diagnostics.
• Perform minor invasive procedures including central line placements, intubations, and chest tube insertions.
• Write post-operative orders, communicate with patients and families, and coordinate discharge instructions and follow-up care.

Requirements

• Graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program with a Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
• Current state licensure as a Physician Assistant; applicable certification required.
• Experience in acute care, surgical, robotic, or critical care settings preferred.
• BLS and ACLS certifications to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Current DEA registration (for Interventional Radiology, if applicable).
• Ability to perform minor invasive procedures and assist in surgeries.
• Strong communication skills and commitment to patient-centered care.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including call responsibilities.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring standing, sitting, bending, and walking.
• Adherence to safety protocols and infectious disease precautions.
