The Midwife at Fort Sanders Women's Specialist provides comprehensive obstetric and gynecological care to a primarily healthy female patient population, including high-risk pregnancies. The role involves inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, collaboration with obstetricians and specialists, and participation in patient education, research, and quality improvement initiatives. The position requires flexibility to cover hospital and office shifts throughout the week.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including history taking, examinations, and treatment planning in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Perform in-office procedures such as annual exams, colposcopies, IUD and Nexplanon insertions/removals, and incision and drainage procedures.
  • Manage labor and delivery, including vaginal births, laceration repairs, and minor complication management.
  • Monitor and care for OB/GYN hospital patients, including triage, antepartum, postpartum, and emergency care.
  • Interpret fetal heart rate and ultrasound findings, and conduct non-stress tests.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately and maintain medical records and reports.
  • Provide health promotion counseling and patient education.
  • Supervise and instruct medical and midwifery students and participate in quality improvement activities.

Compensation

  • Salary-based compensation (W-2 tax status).

Shift & Schedule

  • Variable days and shifts, including hospital and office coverage throughout the week.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in midwifery from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in midwifery practice or labor/delivery nursing.
  • Current Tennessee license as RN and APRN with Certificate of Fitness to Prescribe.
  • Certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
  • DEA registration.
  • CPR certification.
  • Ability to perform in-office procedures and manage obstetric emergencies.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work variable shifts and schedules.
  • Commitment to ongoing education and quality improvement.
