Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a Physician Assistant to join a busy plastic and reconstructive surgery practice. The role involves assisting in the operating room 2-3 days per week and managing perioperative outpatient care 1-2 days per week. The PA will perform patient assessments, assist in surgeries, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and provide patient education and discharge instructions within the scope of practice and under physician supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document physical examinations across all age groups, obtain medical histories, and assess psychosocial issues.
  • Formulate and implement treatment plans, order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, and manage preoperative medications and tests.
  • Assist surgeons in the operating room, including prepping, draping, and closing incisions, primarily in plastic and reconstructive surgery, general surgery, and cardiovascular surgery.
  • Provide perioperative patient care, including pre, intra, and post-operative management, and care for minor injuries and acutely traumatized patients.
  • Evaluate and manage patients in the emergency department as needed, with physician consultation for complex cases.
  • Educate patients and families on healthcare, discharge instructions, and preventative measures.
  • Document patient care accurately, including discharge summaries, and refer complex cases to supervising physicians.
  • Maintain professional conduct, foster a respectful environment, and adhere to policies, procedures, and HIPAA regulations.

Compensation

  • Salary is negotiable, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Compensation includes incentives, sign-on bonus, relocation support, loan repayment options, and CME allowance.

  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Must complete 100 hours of CME every two years and recertify every six years.
  • Ability to perform physical examinations and develop treatment plans within scope of practice.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Experience in perioperative and emergency patient management preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Resilience and adaptability in a dynamic clinical environment.
