The School-Based Health Center (SBHC) Nurse Practitioner provides primary healthcare services to students in accordance with state and local health standards. The role involves conducting health assessments, managing medical crises, administering medications, and maintaining comprehensive health records within a school setting. The NP collaborates with school staff and healthcare professionals to promote student wellness and ensure quality care delivery.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive health histories and physical assessments according to Public Health standards.
• Use clinical skills and screening procedures to identify abnormal findings and refer to physicians as needed.
• Assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate primary healthcare for students, referring to physicians when indicated.
• Manage health/medical crises and coordinate appropriate referrals to outside healthcare providers.
• Develop and maintain accurate electronic health records for enrolled students.
• Administer prescribed medications following collaborative practice protocols.
• Participate in staff meetings and in-service training related to school health services.
• Coordinate and promote student and staff wellness activities.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Nursing - Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from an accredited institution.
• Current Louisiana nurse practitioner license in family or pediatric medicine.
• Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience as a nurse practitioner.
• Current Registered Nurse licensure with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
• Current CPR certification.
• At least 10 contact hours of continuing education related to school nursing.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and familiar with telehealth platforms.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and school system regulations regarding healthcare and schools.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
