The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) at Sanford Health provides comprehensive midwifery care across prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecologic services. The role involves collaborating with the obstetrics and gynecology team to support women through all stages of reproductive health, including high-risk pregnancies, and delivering patient-centered care in various settings such as clinics, hospitals, and birth centers.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess patients' conditions during pregnancy, including high-risk cases, and perform examinations and procedures.
  • Manage fetal development through listening to fetal heartbeat, external measurements, and fetal positioning assessments.
  • Provide prenatal education on nutrition, weight management, and activity for expectant mothers.
  • Deliver comprehensive care during pregnancy, labor, delivery, postpartum, and gynecologic visits, including newborn care during the first 28 days.
  • Order, interpret, and utilize diagnostic and laboratory tests; prescribe medications within legal scope.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and communicate patient information effectively to the healthcare team.
  • Partner with the OB-GYN team to support postpartum care, initial triage of patients, and manage CNM patients' needs.
  • Provide health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness education tailored to women and their families.

Compensation

  • Salary-based compensation (W-2 tax status).

Shift & Schedule

  • Variable schedule days and hours, typically 1-2 outpatient clinic days per week (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM).
  • One dedicated 24-hour inpatient shift per week.
  • Light call rotation of approximately 2-4 shifts per month, limited to CNM patients with no cross-coverage required.

Requirements

  • Master's degree, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or PhD from an accredited nursing program recognized by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM).
  • Current certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
  • Unencumbered license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and valid RN license; multistate licensure preferred if applicable.
  • Ability to work within legal scope of practice and adhere to state regulations.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and DEA registration number.
  • Experience in providing full-scope midwifery care, including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecologic services.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient education and documentation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including variable schedule days and light call rotations.
