Gateway Regional Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to serve as a solo nocturnist in the hospital. The provider will manage hospitalized patients from admission to discharge during night shifts, with a strong emphasis on acute care and independent decision-making. Support is available via phone from in-house hospitalists when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage hospitalized patients from admission to discharge during night shifts.
  • Provide comprehensive acute care and clinical decision-making independently.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate with consulting teams and communicate effectively with hospital staff.
  • Ensure documentation and compliance with hospital policies and protocols.
  • Respond to emergent situations and provide critical interventions when required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records for all patients.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and hospital committees as assigned.

Shift & Schedule

  • Night shifts, 12 hours per shift.
  • Work schedule: 15 days per month, including weekends and holidays.
  • Schedule is variable and primarily during nighttime hours.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program (for NP candidates).
  • Current licensure as an RN and Nurse Practitioner license, or an unrestricted Physician Assistant license issued by Illinois.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • National board certification as an Acute Care NP (ACNP), Adult-Gerontology NP (AGNP), or Family NP (FNP), or NCCPA certification for PAs.
  • Valid DEA registration and state license.
  • Hospitalist and procedural experience preferred for NP candidates; clinical rotations in internal medicine, surgery, or emergency care for PAs.
  • Strong acute care background with ability to work independently during night shifts.
