The Lead Neurosurgical Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions as a care provider within the Department of Neurosurgery, collaborating with physicians, residents, and students to deliver comprehensive neurosurgical patient care. The role includes supervising APP staff, managing clinical workflows, providing patient assessments, performing procedures, and supporting care coordination in an outpatient setting. The position involves coverage of faculty sites, assisting with patient management, and acting as a clinical resource for the team.

Responsibilities

• Provide neurosurgical patient care in collaboration with physicians, residents, and students, including taking histories, performing physical exams, and managing treatment plans.
• Supervise, educate, and mentor Department of Neurosurgery Advanced Practice Providers.
• Cover RWJMS faculty sites, including managing on-call schedules and providing coverage for all types of leave.
• Assist with preoperative and postoperative patient assessments, including performing procedures and documenting findings.
• Coordinate discharge planning, patient education, and follow-up care.
• Order and evaluate diagnostic tests, develop individualized care plans, and initiate referrals as needed.
• Participate in the education of junior residents and medical/physician assistant students.
• Troubleshoot clinical issues, monitor workflow efficiency, and ensure quality documentation.

Compensation

• Salary range of $144,000 to $210,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
• Compensation is provided via W-2 salary model.

Shift & Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
• Day shift with no call, weekends, or shift work.

Requirements

• Licensed Registered Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of New Jersey, certified in NJ.
• Successful completion of all required orientation programs and BCLS certification.
• If a Nurse Practitioner, must be able to see and treat patients of all ages and possess RNFA certification at the time of application.
• Minimum of 4 years' experience in a surgical practice.
• Ability to assist with patient questions, preauthorization, and coordinate with medical staff.
• Experience in performing comprehensive health assessments and physical examinations.
• Proficiency in prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting medications according to the medical plan.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and patient education.
• Ability to perform first assist in surgical procedures and manage perioperative care.
• Competence in developing care plans, ordering diagnostics, and providing patient-centered education.
