The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) provides comprehensive primary and gynecologic care for women across the lifespan, including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and well-woman services. The role involves managing patient care, performing clinical procedures, prescribing medications within regulatory scope, and educating patients and families in diverse healthcare settings. The CNM collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure quality, evidence-based care and participates in quality improvement and professional development activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical services including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and well-woman care, following established protocols and policies.
• Manage patient admissions, discharges, and documentation of clinical findings, prescriptions, and procedures.
• Obtain patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests.
• Perform therapeutic procedures and explain their nature, preparation, and effects to patients and families.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans for prenatal, postpartum, and interconceptional care.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness strategies.
• Utilize prescriptive privileges within the scope allowed by the Texas Board of Nursing and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement, clinical research, and compliance activities, incorporating evidence-based practices.
