The Certified Anesthesiology Assistant will evaluate patients, assist in anesthesia induction and management, perform regional anesthesia, and support perioperative care in a Level IV Trauma Center at Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee. The role involves collaboration with anesthesiologists and healthcare teams across various settings, including ICU and pain clinics, with a focus on patient safety and quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients of all ages to obtain pre-anesthetic health histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Obtain and interpret diagnostic laboratory and related studies, including blood sampling.
  • Establish and monitor noninvasive and invasive monitoring modalities as delegated by anesthesiologists.
  • Assist in the induction, maintenance, and adjustment of anesthesia and sedation, including postoperative care.
  • Support advanced life support techniques, including airway management and ventilatory support.
  • Perform and monitor regional anesthesia techniques such as spinal, epidural, nerve blocks, and local infiltration.
  • Participate in post-anesthesia patient rounds, document progress, and transcribe orders.
  • Respond to life-threatening situations with appropriate interventions, including CPR and advanced cardiac life support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Completion of an accredited anesthesiologist assistant program.
  • Certification from the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants.
  • Current state licensure as an anesthesiologist assistant.
  • Flexibility to respond to varying patient care demands and irregular schedules.
  • Excellent communication and critical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work under high emotional stress and in crisis situations.
  • Stamina for long shifts and rapid work pace, with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and report interpretation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare teams and patients.
