The Family Nurse Practitioner at SWLA Center for Health Services provides primary care services in an ambulatory setting, including patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management. The role involves collaborating with physicians, performing physical examinations, prescribing medications, and participating in quality improvement activities. The position requires maintaining licensure, certifications, and compliance with federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities

• Obtain complete medical histories and perform physical examinations on patients.
• Assess, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic illnesses according to protocols and collaborative agreements.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as labs and x-rays.
• Prescribe medications and explain treatment plans to patients and families.
• Develop, implement, and monitor patient management plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
• Refer patients requiring hospitalization or specialized care to appropriate providers and follow their progress.
• Provide emergency care, including CPR, starting IV fluids, administering medications, and suturing lacerations.
• Maintain accurate patient records in compliance with standards and review records regularly.

Shift & Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 8-hour days.
• Work hours from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm during the school year (August 1 to May 31).

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited nursing or nurse practitioner program recognized by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
• Current, unencumbered Louisiana nursing and advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) licenses.
• Valid DEA number and ability to prescribe medications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience in policy and procedure development.
• Knowledge of health center practice management and EMR platforms.
• Strong critical thinking skills and ability to work objectively through processes.
• Ability to relate effectively with staff and patients.
• Must maintain BLS and ACLS certifications and complete required continuing education credits annually.
• Experience in ambulatory primary care settings preferred.
