The Anesthesiologist Assistant provides anesthesia services under the supervision of an anesthesiologist at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center. Responsibilities include preparing and administering anesthesia, monitoring patient vital signs, managing perioperative care, and responding to emergencies. The role involves pre- and post-anesthesia duties, medication management, and assisting with patient positioning and transport, with scheduled hours Monday through Friday during daytime shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble supplies and administer intravenous, spinal, and other anesthetics prior to procedures under the supervision of an anesthesiologist.
  • Monitor patient reactions and vital signs during and after anesthesia, taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Perform pre-anesthesia assessments, review patient conditions, and ensure equipment readiness.
  • Manage post-anesthesia care, including administering postoperative analgesia and monitoring for complications.
  • Maintain accurate records of anesthetics administered and patient responses.
  • Respond to life-threatening and respiratory emergencies by establishing and maintaining airways, under physician direction.
  • Assist nursing staff with difficult intravenous insertions when requested and available.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to anesthesiologist assistant students.

Compensation

  • $85.00 - $136.00 hourly, based on qualifications and experience.
  • W-2 tax status.
  • Hourly compensation model.

Shift & Schedule

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Anesthesia.
  • Anesthesiologist Assistant license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
  • Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA-C) certification from NCCAA, to be obtained within 18 months.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months, unless waived by department leadership.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 6 months, unless waived.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment managing multiple demands.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to perform patient positioning and transport duties safely.
