The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Emergency Medicine team. The role involves providing high-quality, patient-centered emergency care in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with physicians, performing procedures, and interpreting diagnostic tests. The position includes rotating shifts that encompass nights, weekends, and holidays, with additional observation unit duties.

Responsibilities

• Conduct focused history taking and physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and perform procedures within a fast-paced clinical environment
• Work closely with emergency department attendings in a collaborative care model, staffing all ESI levels 1, 2, and 3
• Order and coordinate specialty emergency care, including calling hospitalists for admissions
• Manage multiple active patients simultaneously
• Document clinical findings, lab and imaging interpretations, and treatment plans accurately in the EMR (EPIC)
• Complete rotating shifts through the ED observation unit

Compensation

• Hourly pay rate between USD 68.48 and USD 93.87
• W-2 tax status

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of clinical PA/NP experience; or 2 years plus completion of an approved post-graduate emergency medicine training program
• Clinical emergency medicine and/or urgent care experience preferred
• Current certification by NCCPA (for PA) or ANCC (for NP)
• Completion of an ARC-PA approved PA program or an accredited nurse practitioner program
• Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
• Experience with electronic medical records, specifically EPIC
• Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
