We are seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for a long-term locum tenens assignment in Southeast Alaska. The role involves providing full-spectrum clinical care at a solo-provider rural clinic, with standard weekday hours, after-hours call, and support staff. The position offers competitive hourly compensation, travel and housing coverage, and the opportunity to serve a remote community in Alaska.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care for an average of 14 patients per day in a rural clinic setting.
- Manage after-hours call shifts, averaging 1-2 patient encounters per shift.
- Perform triage and provide clinical advice via a nursing-managed triage line.
- Conduct full-spectrum medical procedures including suturing, airway management, and stabilization of critically ill patients.
- Coordinate with support staff including Medical Assistants and Rural Clinical Health Assistants.
- Handle emergency situations such as medivac coordination and advanced airway management.
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to clinical protocols.
- Embrace and respect the local native community and culture.
Compensation
- $95.00 hourly rate
- $142.50 hourly overtime rate
- $142.50 hourly callback rate
- $225.00 daily on-call rate
- Differential pay available
- Compensation includes overtime, call, and callback pay

Shift & Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Standard daytime hours with some on-call responsibilities
- After-hours call required, with an average of 1-2 patient encounters per call shift
- In-house call schedule
Requirements
- Active Alaska State Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) license.
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certifications (training preferred but not required).
- Active DEA registration.
- Minimum of 2 years of solo full-spectrum emergency medicine experience.
- Experience with medivac procedures and patient stabilization, including intubation and chest tubes.
- Strong suturing skills.
- Alaska bush or rural clinical experience highly preferred.
- Culturally sensitive and willing to engage with the native community.
- Ability to work independently in a solo-provider setting with support staff.
- Willingness to work in a remote, rural environment with limited resources.
